The third year will see you achieve a greater level of independence with self-managed research, study and practice, resulting in a final major project and a written dissertation.

Major Project – Drawing upon skills and knowledge acquired throughout the course, you will be encouraged to employ an experimental and creative approach to the generation of ideas and the making of work to create a comprehensively established project. Supported by an advanced creative methodology that should include evidence of sustained and focused research, cultural investigation and concept development, it is down to you will initiate, plan and professionally manage this project.

Dissertation – this unit consists of a substantial period of sustained research into a subject that is closely related to the contextual and/or theoretical concerns of your photographic practice. You will engage with a range of research and analysis skills, while developing a methodological approach that allows you to reflect upon and articulate a clear and sustained understanding of your subject area. The results of your research will be presented within a written dissertation conforming to academic conventions.

Exposure: Brief, Career Plan and Exhibition – this unit prepares you to transition seamlessly from graduation into your first major career steps. The course has led you to explore both your relationship with photography and where you wish to sit within the creative industries now open to you. This has allowed you to establish a well-informed, grounded and sustainable practice, and to understand yourself as a confident practitioner in the world of image making.
